Projam's unique mission is to watch over the rights and well-being of young people between 13 and 25 years of age, emphasizing their value in the community and creating avenues for personal, professional and emotional development adapted to their developmental ages, motivations and abilities.

Inspiration around every corner

Projam is a non-profit organization based in Denia, Spain. Its goal is to work with adolescents on projects specifically designed for their professional development. Projam utilizes professionals from the local community to train and mentor participants in subjects such as journalism through the recording of local verbal histories provided by community elders. Other projects include:

  • Dénia Festival (Summer Exhibition)

  • Toymakers' Competition (History of Dénia)

  • Science Fair

  • Comedy and comedians (open microphone)

  • Creating Digital Archives, Young Historians (sessions with grandparents and their stories)

  • Young inventors

  • Chess club

Our History

Founder and CEO of PROJAM

Marisela Powers has spent a lifetime advocating for children's rights and coaching at-risk youth. By the age of 17 she was teaching children's rights in several countries in Latin America, She was instrumental in jumping starting the project Education for Liberty in Venezuela in 1986. She worked with indigenous people assisting in the creation of the first ever dictionary of their native language.

After spending time in multiple Latin American countries, she immigrated to the United States where she was an in classroom educator specializing in mathematics. During her educational career, she came in contact with a project to assist in the education of gang prevention in the inner city. As a youth advocate she interacted with the foster care system, law enforcement, the educational system and was a key intermediary between parents and school. She is certified in CPR and in the identification of mental health issues. During her time in Denia Spain, she served as a volunteer for the Red Cross after school programs.

This lifelong commitment to youth advocacy is rounded out by her years as a synchronized swimmer and coach.
